As there has already been this long delay in the Colonial Office in dealing with this question, I thought I might refer the proposals to you at this stage, whilst we are still sorting out the last details of individual salaries with Hong Kong. You may perhaps feel able to give us your approval in principle of the proposals, on the understanding that the eventual maximum does not exceed £1050 per annum, so that we need not trouble you again with final details provided they do not exceed this sum.

7. The only other points to which I need draw your attention are:-

we have confirmed with Hong Kong that Section 7 of the Code shall be subject to Sections 5 and 28.

In the event (which we understand to be unlikely) of any grants having to be with- drawn from any grant-aided schools, it is intended that the teachers concerned, provided the withdrawal of the grant were in no way due to their fault, should receive their own and Government contributions from the Provident Funds. Such cases would then be treated on the analogy of abolition of office terms, but without any abolition addition,

(c) The following words are to be added to

Section 34: "where such building, extension or structural repair is considered necessary by the Director of Education".
